A 3.50 GPA is an…
A- average
That is the A- band on the standard scale (90–92% for a single grade; a 3.50 average typically stands for about 89.5%).
The full GPA to letter grade table
A GPA between two bands is listed under its nearest band, and the percentage column is the typical figure for that value on the standard scale. Below 1.0 everything is an F average — there is no D average under a 1.0.

Frequently asked questions
What letter grade is a 3.5 GPA?+
A 3.5 sits exactly halfway between B+ (3.3) and A− (3.7), so it is honestly described as a B+/A− average — most students and this table round it to A− territory, a percentage average of about 89–90%. There is no official single letter for a GPA between bands, which is why the table names the nearest band and shows the percentage alongside.
What letter grade is a 3.0 GPA?+
A 3.0 is a B average, exactly: B is the 3.0 band on the standard 4.0 scale, standing for a percentage average of 83–86%. It is the most quoted GPA threshold there is — the minimum for many scholarships, programmes and graduate-school applications.
What letter grade is a 2.5 GPA?+
A 2.5 sits between C+ (2.3) and B− (2.7), nearer to C+ — a percentage average of roughly 79%. Schools describing a 2.5 usually call it a C+/B− average. It clears the 2.0 good-standing line comfortably but sits below the 3.0 bar many programmes ask for.
Is a 3.8 GPA an A or an A−?+
Closer to A−: the A− band is 3.7, and a 3.8 is one step above it, short of the 4.0 that a clean A average requires. In percentage terms a 3.8 typically stands for about 92–93%. Students with a 3.8 have mostly A− and A grades with very little below.
Why is there no exact letter grade for most GPA values?+
Because letter grades are bands, not points. A GPA is an average of band values, so most averages land between two bands rather than on one. The honest answer for a value like 3.4 is 'a B+ average' — the nearest band — with the percentage range shown so you can see where it sits. Anyone who tells you 3.4 is exactly one letter with no qualification is tidier than the truth.
What letter grade is a 4.0 GPA?+
An A average — the top band. Note that on the standard scale an A+ also counts 4.0, so a 4.0 GPA can mean straight A's or a mix of A and A+ grades; the percentage average behind it is somewhere in 93–100%, typically quoted around 96–97%.
